The congregation's kindness to those marginalized in society I was in a bad place with the state of the world and feeling isolated after surgery. I was looking for a way to get involved in helping people. During a city meeting I heard a Frame member talking about the Warming Center. I looked into it and thought here is a church doing the things I believe a church should be doing. On my first Sunday attending I felt like I'd been caught in a storm, taken in and wrapped in a warm blanket. I've never been welcomed to that extent before. Some churches appear to be (a circle of) people looking inward toward each other to figure out their purpose. And some churches appear to be (a circle of) people looking outward. It seems to me Frame is an outward looking church, with people of faith answering Christ’s call to serve those in need. Learn more about what’s happening at Frame. This means worshiping and following Jesus Christ not only through our words, but also through our lives. We began in 2001 when a group of core members, along with our senior pastor started meeting weekly at a local coffee shop. In 2005 we moved into an old church building and have been worshiping there ever since! The Gospel is ultimately about humanity being restored to God’s community. Only through practicing community will individuals grow fully in the grace and knowledge to be found in Jesus. Furthermore, it is through community that a fragmented world can best witness the power of the Gospel and the nature of God’s work. We don’t agree on every point of doctrine or every issue, but we value each person’s voice and perspective. We also don’t focus much on how to get to heaven, but on how to bring this world closer to God’s vision. Mission Statement: Frame Memorial Presbyterian Church is a welcoming, inclusive community. We invite all who seek to follow Jesus Christ into full participation in the life and leadership of our church. In the Bible book of Matthew Jesus uses 3 stories (parables) to show us how to live as Christians. When we care for the hungry, thirsty, unclothed, strangers, prisoners, or the sick, we are caring for Jesus. The message of Christianity is love. We are to love each other, and also love the stranger, the immigrant, and the prisoner. Frame has prioritized eradicating systemic poverty, climate action, and gender justice for our Matthew 25 commitment. We believe in the full participation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA+) people in the life, ministry and witness of our church and community. More Light congregations are whole communities, where a fulfilling life in God’s creation is meant for all. The Safe Zone decal means some of us have gained an understanding, through training, of LGBTQIA+ identities, gender, and sexuality. We are sensitive to how words may sometimes show unintended prejudice, assumption, or privilege. LGBTQIA+ individuals sometimes question whether they will feel safe, welcomed, or supported in a new place. We are committed to creating an LGBTQIA+ inclusive environment here where all feel safe, welcomed and supported. We are Climate Activists certified as an Earth Care Congregation. Our faith urges us to strive for eco-justice. This means we answer God’s call to defend and heal the earth while working to assure justice for our planet and the human beings who live on it. We work to support and nurture earth-sustaining activities in the fields of worship, education, facilities, and outreach. We are faithfully working to serve Christ in the world through communities of faith, hope, love, and witness. Presbyterians encourage involvement in service to our church and our neighbors. Deacons offer loving care to those who are sick or grieving among us. Elders lead our Session (governing body) and congregation in fulfilling our mission of serving our community and world. We acknowledge that we are all resting our feet on ancestral lands that Indigenous peoples have stewarded and that those lands were taken by force or fraud. So, we honor the Ho Chunk and Menominee peoples who stewarded what we now know as Central Wisconsin and ask for God’s blessing on their descendants. Frame was founded in 1865 as the First Presbyterian Church in Stevens Point. The current building’s cornerstone was laid in 1892. Construction began during the tenure of the Rev. Walter Frame, who died before the building was completed. The church changed its name to recognize the energy and dedication of Rev. Frame who helped the congregation to reach out in faith and build a house of worship that has stood the test of time. There have been 23 pastors during Frame’s history. Rev. Ashley Abraham Hood began her ministry here in October 2023. In what Presbyterians believe to be a “priesthood of all believers,” **each** believer can reveal God’s love in ways unique to them, contributing to the growth of the church and its community. As part of this we believe some are called to exercise special functions in the church as deacons, ruling elders, and ministers of the Word and Sacrament. To these offices, God calls people of every race, ethnicity, age, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, geography, or theological conviction.  Ruling elders are church members elected by the congregation to serve on the Session, our governing body. They are called “ruling” elders not because they exercise power over others, but because they are responsible for discernment and governance, guiding the spiritual life and mission of the congregation. The ministry of deacons, as set forth in Scripture, is one of compassion, witness, and service, sharing in the redeeming love of Jesus Christ for the poor, the hungry, the sick, the lost, the friendless, the oppressed, those burdened by unjust policies or structures, or anyone in distress. Our deacons live out their call by overseeing congregational care, visitor hospitality, congregational fellowship, and other special outreach projects through the year. This includes, but not limited to, the collection of food, school supplies, holiday baskets and more. We will meet for worship at **10:30** at **Jordan Park WEST** lodge (not Iverson). There is a Potluck following church, feel free to bring a dish to pass. Bring your own plates and utensils. Your Sunday offering plate donation helps us to serve God. Our church is not the building at the corner of Church & Main – our church is our Frame Family. The worship, fellowship, ministry, and service of Frame are done by our people. The community we have and the work we do require investments from all our people – time, talents, resources, and love. We ask you to prayerfully consider all that God has given you and what you can offer back to God. Frame is God’s gift to each of us and is whatever we make it. Whatever it has been, whatever it will be follows God’s outline but is defined in size, scope, depth and breadth by what we bring to it, including our financial pledge. “Our” means us. Each of us. No one else. Each of us and what we prayerfully give back to God. Frame is a community of people striving together to be the body of Christ. Here “faith” is a verb. Our neighbors need the care, encouragement and love of justice that guides our many ministries, those that attend to our own members and needs and those that extend radical, healing hospitality to a hurting world. A pledge is a financial commitment of your planned giving to the church for the next year. Your pledge, combined with others, creates the budget our Session approves. Only our church office manager sees the actual amounts of each pledge. While a pledge is a future commitment for the year ahead, the church understands that circumstances may arise later that impact your ability to fulfill your pledge. Your pledge makes it possible for Frame to retain excellent staff and ministerial leadership; to share our building with our neighbors as God's property, not ours; to help ensure Frame can bear witness through the highs and lows of life. A budget demonstrates values, what an individual or organization really cares about. The importance of pledging cannot be stressed enough. **Please give this your prayerful consideration for also increasing the amount you give.** As we look ahead, we are called to build upon the legacy of love, justice, and radical hospitality that defines our church community. The work of Christ, which we have embraced in serving our members and neighbors, can only continue with your generous financial support. With every pledge, we lay another brick in the foundation of God’s vision for us. Per Capita is the primary source of funding for the national church (PCUSA), our Winnebago Presbytery and Synod of Lakes & Prairie. Per Capita is how Presbyterians mutually and equitably share the costs of coming together to discern the Spirit’s leading for the future. We start collecting for the next year during our fall stewardship campaign. Many members return their per capita payment with their pledge card. Knowing not everyone can afford to support this appeal, some members make an extra payment to help us reach our assessment of $40.42 per member. We join with other Presbyterian congregations to have a greater impact in helping those in need throughout the world by donating to these four annual special offerings: One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) benefits Presbyterian ministries to combat hunger, assistance after disaster strikes, and to work with sustainable community development. Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is funded through OGHS donations and direct PDA donations. PDA cares for communities adversely affected by crisis and catastrophic events. Christmas Joy offerings assist current and retired church workers, and their families, in their time of need. It also develops our future leaders at Presbyterian-related schools and colleges equipping communities of color. Cultivating reconciliation by supporting racial and gender justice, peacemaking efforts, global witness and nurturing ecumenical and interfaith relations. Donors can explore giving “Qualified Charitable Contributions” (QCDs) directly to the church from their IRAs. This can be used to satisfy your Required Mandatory Distribution (RMD) if you are age 73 or older. The distribution is excluded from your taxable income, potentially lowering your tax liability. Be sure to verify tax information with your accountant or financial advisor. Stock donations made directly to the church can avoid capital gains taxes if done correctly. Contact the church office or treasurer to get a copy of the information your stockbroker or financial advisor will need to transfer shares to the church. To make a lasting gift to help ensure the future of the church, talk to your financial advisor about legacy giving in your estate plan. You’ll find a range of attire among worshipers. You will be greeted warmly! As you arrive you will find parking on the backside of the building. We welcome wiggly children in our sanctuary. We also have a staffed nursery. We have gender-neutral and accessible bathrooms, an accessible entrance, and a lift. Frame members value meaningful sermons, variety in music, and our mission work in the community. We welcome children! In the sanctuary we provide worship bags with quiet activities, while we also invite children to participate. We have a “Time for All Ages” story or activity intended to help all of us worship more fully.  Beyond the sanctuary we have a well-staffed nursery available during worship. During the school year, the children have a monthly 45 min. Sunday School Class following the Time for All Ages.  All junior high and high school students are welcome in our Youth Group. During the school year, the Youth Group meets twice a month on Sunday afternoons. The gatherings usually include good food, friendly check-ins, and a service activity or theme-based discussion. The highlight of the year is the summer Youth Service Trip. Our building has four levels; three of the them are accessible by Lift. **Lift Level I:** Lower/Basement Level. Kitchen, Fellowship Hall, and Nursery on this Level. Accessible and gender-neutral bathroom. **Lift Level II:** Entrance Level. Lift and stair access to Upper and Lower Levels. Lift is on your left as you enter from the parking lot. **Lift Level III:** Upper/Sanctuary Level. Office and Library on this Level. Women’s and Men’s bathrooms. **Top Floor:** Sunday School is reached by stairs from the Sanctuary Level. A hearing loop is a system that transmits microphone sound directly into hearing aids, or cochlear implants, that have a Telecoil, also known as a T-coil. Your hearing aid will have a button to switch to T-coil. If you use your cell phone to adjust your hearing aids, you may also need to switch to T-coil (or Induction Loop) on your phone. Be sure to switch it back after the service! You may need to ask your audiologist if your hearing aid has a T-coil. If it doesn’t, a T-coil could be added. Let’s build a future where everyone everywhere has the opportunity and power to thrive. Frame Church has long contributed in many ways to alleviate symptoms of poverty in our community. The Eradicating Systemic Poverty initiative adds a focus on upstream (systemic) causes and solutions. We are committed to working collaboratively with other congregations, organizations and individuals as there is great potential in collaborative action. Structural barriers that create and perpetuate poverty limit access to vital resources like high-quality education, healthcare, transportation, housing, and employment by creating systemic disadvantages for marginalized groups. These barriers are often embedded in the policies, practices, and norms of society and can be rooted in historical injustices, such as structural racism. For instance, discriminatory hiring and lending practices restrict access to capital and good jobs, while the lack of affordable housing near job centers confines individuals to areas with fewer opportunities. Overcoming these barriers requires systemic changes to redistribute power and resources, addressing the root causes of inequality to Our strategies include advocacy, collaboration, education, and utilizing Frame provided space in our building for a winter overnight warming shelter for many years. We continue to support our unhoused neighbors as the city transitions to a new year-round shelter. We are an active member of One Big Tent, a coalition of churches, non-profits, and individuals who provide support to unhoused or housing insecure individuals. This includes information about available resources in the community. We are collaborating with Partnering Together to establish a location in the community for wrap-around services, emergency housing, transitional housing and laundry facilities. A member of our team is on their Board of Directors. We are advocating for zoning changes that support more affordable housing in the City of Stevens Point. We are also advocating for affordable housing to be included in the large downtown development across the street from our church. Plans for this development include housing, business/retail, and transportation. We support the new Portage County Community Land Trust and have a member on their Board of Directors. We support Affordable Health Care by advocating for Medicaid and promoting the new [Noble Clinic](https://nobleclinics.org/locations/stevens-point/), which offers affordable healthcare services for all ages and health requirements. Their services include medical, dental, behavioral health, substance use recovery, pharmacy, and chiropractic. We assist former foster care kids in transitioning to higher education. We are continually examining how we (as a congregation and individuals) use our resources in a way that reflects our values. [Laundry Love has weekly laundromat hours for low-income families to receive laundry soap and coins for the machines.](https://laundrylove.org/) Frame Feeds A free community meal is served weekly at Holy Spirit parish. Frame hosts on the second Thursday of the month at 5 p.m. Food Pantries We collect non-perishable food for three local food pantries. Our Giving Gardens also supply fresh produce. More Light Presbyterians is a non-profit organization dedicated to allowing the full participation of LGBTQIA+ people in life, ministry, and witness of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and in society. We seek to serve Christian communities and center God’s abundance in all we do and all we are. Frame is certified as a Safe Zone organization by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Center for Inclusive Teaching and Learning. Being Safe Zone trained enables opportunities for our congregation to learn about LGBTQIA+ identities, gender and sexuality, and examine prejudice, assumptions, and privilege through acculturation. LGBTQIA+ folks sometimes question whether they will feel safe, welcomed, or supported. Safe Zone Trained congregations are committed to creating LGBTQIA+-inclusive environments An Interactive Journal of Christian Social Justice is an online community that is committed to social justice as inspired by the gospel. It is both a journal and a forum for conversation, action and community building. Unbound seeks to be an inclusive and welcoming platform, no matter one’s gender, sexuality, race, religion, age, ability or creed. It seeks to experience and express different perspectives that further the Kin-dom of God and move us toward the arc of justice. [Unbound – The intersections of Faith and Justice - is a ministry of PC(USA) but holds to the ecumenical voice of the Church universal.](http://www.justiceunbound.org) **Engaging** the church to invite all of God’s children into safe and welcoming congregational spaces of affirmation, healing, dignity and purpose. **Educating** the church to expand our welcome of LGBTQIA+ people, to affirm their gifts for ordained office, and to uphold marriage equality for all. **Equipping** the church to bear witness to justice through advocacy and activism at the international, national and local church levels; speaking a prophetic word in anxious and divided times; and standing with others in fighting hate and oppression against any of God’s children. As a result, we work in a variety of ways in our community and beyond. We donate all the fresh, organic food we grow in our five raised-bed gardens to low-income people in our community. We assist members with composting their kitchen scraps to help feed our gardens organically. A member grows a wide variety of organic peppers from seeds. When the peppers are ready to transplant, he sells them and donates all proceeds to the work of the Green Team. We offer a free meal of organic baked potatoes, and a wide variety of toppings, in our Fellowship Hall following a Sunday worship service. Trees reduce carbon dioxide pollution in our atmosphere and the climate warming pollution causes. We provide Frame members, and local school forests, free saplings and native plants. We work with Frame youth to pick up litter on a two-mile section of Reserve Street. This is a time of fellowship and community service outside in nature. All ages enjoy this activity and learn more about the environment in the process. This is our time for honoring and respecting nature in worship. We work with the worship team to create an uplifting experience during a series of Sunday services. We come together to reflect on God’s creation and how we can care for the earth. Frame has often held a Season of Creation outdoor worship service at UWSP’s [Schmeeckle Reserve](https://www3.uwsp.edu/cnr-ap/schmeeckle/Pages/home.aspx) on the [Green Circle](https://greencircletrail.org), a 27-mile scenic hiking and biking trail that loops through the Stevens Point area. The Portage County Solid Waste Department has [website](https://www.co.portage.wi.gov/647/What-Do-I-Do-With) and [Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/PortageCountyRecycles) pages that offer recycling, trash & hazardous waste disposal options for the public. Lots of great information. empowers everyday people to work together on climate policy. Supporters are organized in 420+ chapters across the US building support in Congress for a national bipartisan solution to climate change. Climate Wisconsin is an educational multimedia collection sharing stories from Wisconsin citizens about how climate change affects their livelihoods. Established in 2002, these grants are designed to support the people of Portage County to enhance their skills and help meet their basic needs. The picture above is Sentry Theater filled to the brim with 4th graders. They are riveted as they hear a live performance of music from around the world. They are laughing, smiling, playing recorders, singing along, and dancing! Every year, almost 1,500 4th graders experience magic and wonder as they learn about orchestras, hear amazing music, and most importantly … they LOVE IT! Watch a [short video](http://www.cwso.org/education/vetter/) about how New York City’s Carnegie Hall Link-Up Curriculum for grades 3-5 is brought to Central Wisconsin each year. This is just one of the creative non-profits we support with our grants. Each year we raise money through concerts and other events, donations, and our annual church budget. Over $250,000 was given in grants in our first 20 years. Grant amounts generally range between $500 and $1,500. We invite applications from 501(c)(3) organizations that serve individuals, families, or groups in Portage County. We fund specific projects and new or existing initiatives that enhance people’s skills or meet people’s basic needs. Grant applications are available starting May 1st. Be sure to check our website to download an application. At our annual Mission Fair in October, we invite our partner organizations to share information about how they serve the community. It is a special Sunday when Fellowship Hall is filled with grant recipients and others eager to tell us about their important work. This coffee hour is a time to learn, be inspired, and gather with friends. We will meet for worship at **10:30** at **Jordan Park WEST** lodge (not Iverson). There is a Potluck following church, feel free to bring a dish to pass. Bring your own plates and utensils. Community Land Trust (CLT): helping make home ownership more affordable to people with low to moderate incomes by placing the land in a trust, effectively lowering the cost of purchasing a home - Madison Elementary School PTO: to construct a fully accessible outdoor learning space, creating a permanent educational resource that advances equity, inclusion, and long-term community well-being - We believe children come to know Jesus when they participate in relationships that model loving neighbors as ourselves. In the sanctuary we provide worship bags with quiet ... ... activities. Our “Time for All Ages” story or activity is intended to help all of us worship more fully.  Throughout the year we have a variety of intergenerational worship services which center the needs and perspectives of children – e.g. the semi-annual Waffle Church. A well-staffed nursery is available during worship. Sunday School is offered monthly during the school year. The 45-minute class begins after the Time for All Ages. We host Vacation Bible School in August.  Children and their adults are also invited to participate in the Green Team, Pride Fest, and various service initiatives. We know that most often faith formation for children occurs at home. Our committee leaders and staff often provide resources for faith formation at home. Please reach out to us if you have special requests. Young people offer unique gifts, perspectives, passions, questions and concerns that help build our church into the full expression of God’s love for the world. We celebrate and advocate for youth and young adults, as they often lead the way in seeking justice in the world. It is common for our youth to have a leadership role in worship and/or on a committee.  All junior high and high school students are welcome in our Youth Group. During the school year, the Youth Group meets twice a month on Sunday afternoons. The gatherings usually include good food, friendly check-ins, and a service activity or theme-based discussion.  The highlight of the year is the summer Youth Service Trip. In 2025 we went to [**Ferncliff Camp & Conference Center Presbyterian Disaster Assistance**](https://ferncliff.org/outreach/disaster-assistance/) where we worked and played in the heat of Arkansas – gardening, painting, repairing, swimming, laughing and more. In 2026 we are headed to [**Motown Mission**](https://motownmission.org/) to serve alongside Detroiters in economic disaster recovery work.  Most every Sunday at the end of worship you will hear us charge each other with the words of Rev. Dr. Fane Downs, **“Be obedient to your call. Bold in your witness. Energetic in your service. Extravagant in your love.”** This is our intention and we have many ways we support each other in living it out. Many of us need community to help us discern who and Whose we are and how to respond. Faith formation also happens when adults commit some sort of regular worship experience plus one more smaller gathering. At Frame there are small groups that gather for storytelling, theological discussion, and fellowship; there are Teams actively working on our Matthew 25 visions (think of them as hybrids somewhere between a small group and a committee); and there are committees that do the work, and make the decisions, that help our congregation to run well. Growing up in a musical family, Peter shared his talents with the Frame Church congregation on several occasions throughout his youth. This concert is a true homecoming—a wonderful opportunity to welcome Peter back and celebrate his remarkable musical journey. Peter has been a member of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra since 2008 and has captivated audiences worldwide as a multi-genre soloist, chamber musician, and educator. Passionate about musical innovation, he incorporates looping and drum-pedal effects to seamlessly blend classical and contemporary styles. He frequently performs his own arrangements of pop and rock songs on electric cello, combining instrumental performance with vocals to create a uniquely engaging musical experience. Come celebrate this special homecoming concert and experience the extraordinary talent of Stevens Point’s own Peter Thomas. We hope you can join us!
