Presbyterian Church

For Presbyterians, Jesus Christ provides the pattern for ministry and leadership: the pattern of one who came “not to be served but to serve” (Matthew 20:28). In what Presbyterians believe to be a “priesthood of all believers,” each believer can reveal God’s love in ways unique to them, contributing to the growth of the church and its community. As part of this we believe some are called to exercise special functions in the church as deacons, ruling elders, and ministers of the Word and Sacrament. To these offices, God calls people of every race, ethnicity, age, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, geography, or theological conviction.

Ruling elders are church members elected by the congregation to serve on the Session, our governing body. They are called “ruling” elders not because they exercise power over others, but because they are responsible for discernment and governance, guiding the spiritual life and mission of the congregation.

The ministry of deacons, as set forth in Scripture, is one of compassion, witness, and service, sharing in the redeeming love of Jesus Christ for the poor, the hungry, the sick, the lost, the friendless, the oppressed, those burdened by unjust policies or structures, or anyone in distress.
Our deacons live out their call by overseeing congregational care, visitor hospitality, congregational fellowship, and other special outreach projects through the year. This includes, but not limited to, the collection of food, school supplies, holiday baskets and more.
